Everything we offer is based on professional experience and is backed up with qualifications.

Swamphen Enterprises was founded by Tamara Clelford (Sheret), with a vision of helping companies make a real difference to their capabilities and results in a range of different areas. What makes Swamphen different is the true portfolio nature of the experience on offer. This wealth of experience can be drawn on to make our collaboration an enjoyable successful experience.

Tamara has had a true portfolio career, working in a range of related but different jobs and industries gaining skills and qualifications along the way.

Her journey started at the University of Sheffield studying physics and astronomy, this completed the lifelong ambition of the 5 year old Tamara for wanting to be a ‘physicist’! She then got the opportunity to study astrophysics at post graduate level, and during this time went out to work on world class telescopes in Hawaii, Australia and Chile. She worked on a survey project, analysing and interpreting a huge amount of data through the writing of bespoke computer programmes to increase the number of known Massive Young Stellar Objects. During this time Tamara did a lot of outreach work in schools and communities promoting physics and astronomy to a wider audience. This work led to featured articles at UKIRT and the Times Educational Supplement. More importantly it ignited a love of teaching and educating which has stayed with her throughout her career.

Tamara then trained at the University of Cambridge to become a physics teacher and taught physics in state schools gaining Qualified Teacher Status.

Moving into the defence industry Tamara worked as an antenna expert for 10 years. Gaining experience in electromagnetic simulation and modelling, hardware design and test, anechoic chamber design and test and the processing and presentation of results to inform design and business purposes. This meant working closely with external companies and other departments both in the UK and in Europe. Her work led to a role in the management of manufacture and assembly of RF components, she completed the PMP project management qualification to support this new role. In addition to her technical job Tamara was responsible for the recruitment and development of apprentices and graduates in her department, this included their technical and business skills. She also taught engineering and maths to the apprentices for their BTEC, HNC and HND qualifications. During her time in the defence industry Tamara gained a PhD in antenna test and design through Queen Mary University London.

Tamara then moved into the start up world and worked as a data scientist for an insureTech start up. As lead data scientist she founded their data science department and had first look at the data the company had collected. This invaluable insight lead to improvements in their products and processes.

Tamara has had a close involvement with the Institute of Physics since the first week of her degree. Tamara works with the professional membership department, and reviews applications and interviews for CPhys and CEng professional qualifications and reviews applications for Fellowship. For her work with the IOP she was invited to sit on the Professional Standards Committee in 2016, they set the requirements for their membership and professional qualifications. In 2018 she was voted by IOP members onto the council, the board of the IOP.
